FAQ

We are excited to welcome you to the south of West-Flanders, Belgium’s most charming province—or, as Lucas calls it, “cows and fields country.”

West-Flanders is known for its picturesque and historically rich towns such as Bruges and Ypres, Belgium’s only coastline, and of course, Deerlijk, Loes’ quaint hometown. From Deerlijk, the nearest cities are Kortrijk and Waregem.

We’ve focused on Kortrijk for travel, accommodations, and activities, as it’s the closest city to our wedding venue in Kuurne.

The wedding ceremony will take place at the church in Deerlijk. Following the service, you are invited to join us for the wedding reception, dinner, and party at our venue in Kuurne, located just 15 minutes from the church.

Below, you’ll find details on how to get to this lovely part of Belgium and our recommendations for accommodations nearby.

We’d love for everyone to look their best and feel comfortable, so think cocktail attire as a general guide. But don’t stress too much—just wear something you’ll enjoy celebrating in!

It’s usually warm but can be unpredictable. Temperatures range between 15°C and 25°C, with a chance of rain. We suggest bringing layers and a light jacket, just in case!

To travel from Brussels Airport (Zaventem) to the south of West-Flanders, the best option is to rent a car or take the train.

Here’s the step-by-step process for travelling by train. We’ve included instructions for arriving at the Waregem and Kortrijk train stations, as these are the closest to our wedding venue.

  • Diabolo Fee: Since you’re starting at Brussels Airport, you’ll need to pay the Diabolo fee, which should be included in your train ticket when departing from or arriving at the airport. This covers the special rail connection to and from the airport.
  • Train to Brussels: From the airport, take a train to Brussels-Midi/Zuid. Trains run frequently, and this leg of the journey takes about 20 minutes.
  • Train to Kortrijk: At Brussels-Midi/Zuid, transfer to a direct IC (InterCity) train to Kortrijk. The journey from Brussels to Kortrijk usually takes about 1 hour 20 minutes.
  • Total Travel Time: The entire journey from Brussels Airport to Kortrijk will take around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, including transfer time.
  • You can purchase your ticket, including the Diabolo fee, at the station or via the SNCB/NMBS website.
  • Once you arrive at the train station, you can take an Uber or taxi to your accommodations. If you’re staying at the Parkhotel, it’s conveniently located just across the street from the Kortrijk train station. For more information, see the ‘How to get around’ section for taxis and ‘Where to stay’ for details on the Parkhotel under ‘Travel.’
  • Depending on your arrival time, Loes’ family may also be able to pick you up at one of these stations. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss this option further. For more information on rental cars or traveling by train, please visit the “Travel” section.

Yes, there is parking at the venue. You can follow the driveway to access the large parking area, which is conveniently located away from the street.

No visa is required for Canadian citizens. Just make sure your Canadian passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay and does not expire until 3 months after your trip.

In Belgium, you’ll find that credit and debit cards are widely accepted. However, for those like Lucas who swear by American Express, you might be out of luck, as it’s not commonly accepted yet! So, make sure to have a debit card or some cash ready for those smaller purchases.

Tipping isn’t required since service charges are typically included in your bill. However, if you receive exceptional service, rounding up the bill or leaving a small tip is always appreciated. You heard that right – less money for tips = more cash for chocolate (because girl math)!

Absolutely, which is why Belgian weddings feature beer instead of cocktails. With 14 varieties to choose from at our venue, you’ll be sure to find a new favourite – or maybe a few!

We’ll share the final details about the schedule when we send out the wedding invitations. At that time, we’ll also update this FAQ with more information about the schedule and ceremony.
